Terry Thompson was an Air Force pilot and commander, a church staff pastor, and is now a university professor--probably not the person you would imagine to advocate a bold new strategy for the war on cancer. But, when Terry lost his wife to cancer in 2001, he began a quest to research every aspect of cancer treatment.

"When Terry lost his wife to cancer in 2001, he began a quest to research every aspect of cancer treatment."

His efforts revealed what many in medical science and practice consider to be the real hope of defeating cancer, but what few others are aware of. His new book, A New Strategy for the War on Cancer, released in 2011, is the first book of its kind written for the general public.

The Foreword is by David Rosenthal, M.D., Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Medical Director of the Zakim Institute of Integrative Therapies at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, and former president of the American Cancer Society. Terry coordinated with Dr. Rosenthal and several other doctors and researchers in the writing of his book.

The new strategy advocates a crucial change in the failed decades-old system for battling cancer.  It balances conventional and non-toxic, natural treatment--something the medical and pharmaceutical establishment has not done effectively.  The book begins by briefly chronicling the "war on cancer" from its declaration by President Nixon in 1971 to present.  It reveals astounding statistics including the fact that, during these 40 years, the war has had relatively little impact on the mortality rate of this diabolical disease.  In spite of the billions upon billions of dollars that have been spent on anti-cancer research and infrastructure since 1971, a mere 8% fewer are dying of the disease each day.  Most of that decline is from better screening and healthier lifestyles such as more mammograms and reduced smoking.

While acknowledging the extreme efforts and contributions of highly dedicated conventional treatment professionals and the good they have done, the book highlights their shortfalls and presents approaches additional to, not instead of, conventional applications. The new stategy includes specific solutions to our cancer quagmire through a more systematic unconventional methodology termed integrative oncology.

Everyone has experienced cancer, either personally or through a family member or friend. This year, as always, 1.4 million people will hear the words, "You have cancer," for the first time.  This year, as always, over 560,000 victims of the disease will die.  Enough!  The timing for the book is now!  The time for you to get involved is now! Since you cannot avoid being touched by cancer, you need to be aware of, insist on, recommend, and support complementary therapies offered by integrative oncologists. The first step is to read A New Strategy for the War on Cancer.
